The University of Kansas Conference Center, located within the David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium in Lawrence, Kansas, has been transformed into a modern, high-performance venue for events, meetings, and hospitality.

As part of the 2025 renovation, Junckers delivered a premium oak wall cladding solution that enhances both the visual identity and functionality of the space. Designed by Multistudio in collaboration with HNTB, the project reflects a growing demand for sustainable wood solutions in commercial interiors.

Design & Architectural Intent

At the heart of the project is a large-scale oak feature wall, designed to create a warm, natural focal point within the conference center. The light-toned Nordic Oak enhances spatial openness while reinforcing a clean, Scandinavian-inspired aesthetic.

Integrated with university catchphrases, the wall becomes more than a surface—it acts as a storytelling element that strengthens the connection between architecture and institutional identity.

Why Junckers

Junckers was selected as the preferred supplier due to its ability to deliver high-performance hardwood solutions tailored to demanding commercial environments:

  • Consistent, high-quality solid hardwood flooring and wall solutions
  • Pre-finished surfaces ensuring faster installation and reduced on-site work
  • Low VOC emissions, supporting indoor air quality and sustainability standards
  • Reliable lead times, critical for large-scale construction projects

Solution

Junckers supplied nearly 7,000 sq ft of Nordic Oak Classic, installed as vertical wall cladding. The ultra matte lacquer finish enhances the natural grain of the oak while reducing glare—ideal for high-use conference environments.

This solution combines durability, low maintenance, and timeless aesthetics, making it suitable for high-traffic public interiors such as auditoriums and event spaces.

Performance & Outcome

The completed installation delivers both functional and aesthetic value:

  • Creates a warm, welcoming atmosphere for visitors and guests
  • Enhances acoustic comfort and spatial quality
  • Provides a durable, long-lasting surface suitable for high-traffic use
  • Supports sustainable building practices through low-emission materials

The result is a refined, future-proof conference facility that meets the evolving expectations of collegiate and commercial environments.

Expanding the Experience

The renovation also includes upgraded lounges, premium hospitality areas, and a 20,000 sq ft expansion to the adjacent football complex—positioning the venue as a central hub for events and community engagement.
